Trump’s Success is Illusory at Best

Trump’s bluster and bravado might make you believe and want to believe he gets things done. He doesn’t, but his attempts at policy-making have just made things worse. Putting everything in a jar and shaking it up just to make it seem like he’s doing something is just for show. He’s really made a mess of things that’s going to take decades to clean up…if we even get that opportunity. You can scream that I’m being partisan, but I can almost guarantee that we’ll *all* come to this realization later…if we’re lucky.

The only thing that he’s done successfully is stack the judiciary full of conservative judges, which is why the Republicans tolerated him in the first place. Everything else is failure. The wall? Where’s that? The debt was skyrocketing before the pandemic hit because of the “tax breaks” that essentially funneled money from the treasury into the hands of large corporations and high finance. The stock market is flourishing because the 1% is awash in liquidity. He’s handled the pandemic terribly. There are comparisons for that, and he’s basically messed it up almost as badly as he could. DACA? He’s not done anything with that other than make a mess. Even the things I thought were horrible, like his “Muslim Ban,” he hasn’t been able to pull them off as promised. He couldn’t organize a piss-up in a brewery. He’s created chaos and lied about it, and people want to believe it, so they don’t look any further. He’s a failure writ large and the evidence is everywhere.

He’s a grifting conman who’s success in life has largely been through breaking the rules and stealing from people. (BTW, this is not a virtue and doesn’t work when you can’t walk away and leave someone else holding the bag…say, when you’re President of the United States.) On a level playing field, he’s woefully over-matched in pretty much any endeavor. You can look all of that up. This isn’t a surprise. These are facts that were already established 30 years ago. I challenge you to read this article, written 25 years before he ran for president and at a time when our culture wasn’t so politically polarized, and call it Fake News that he’s morally bereft and unfit for, well, much of anything more than a job as a car salesman at a buy-here-pay-here lot. He is a great salesman in the vein of P.T. Barnum…I will credit him with that. And his survival instincts are insanely good.

Oh, and for those of you who say that I’m still here despite Trump’s mess, I might still be here to suffer through this, but 180,000+ and counting aren’t, largely thanks to his rank incompetence and greed that’s right in front of the world to see.
